What is CAGE Code?

CAGE stands for “Commercial and Government Entity” code. It is a unique identifier assigned to contractors and suppliers who do business with the federal government of the United States. The CAGE code is used to track and identify these entities in the federal procurement system.

The CAGE code is a five-character alphanumeric code assigned by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and is used by many other government agencies as well. It is assigned based on information provided by the business entity, such as its legal name, address, and other business details.

The purpose of the CAGE code is to provide a standardized way of identifying and tracking contractors and suppliers who do business with the federal government. It is used in a variety of government procurement systems, including the System for Award Management (SAM), which is the primary database used by the federal government to manage vendor information.

Having a CAGE code is often a requirement for businesses that wish to do business with the federal government, and it is necessary for companies that want to bid on government contracts or provide goods or services to government agencies.
